The booklet comes from Every Flower Seems To Burn By Itself, curated by Eloise Sweetman, a contemplative group exhibition featuring works by Tanatchai Bandasak, Jason Hendrik Hansma, Marlie Mul, Elif Satanaya Özbay, Maaike Schoorel, and Damon Zucconi, presented at Les Bains-Douches Alençon. Inspired by a fleeting moment in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, the exhibition captures a suspended sense of time—where artworks smolder, shimmer, and slowly reveal themselves like flowers glowing in the golden hour.
Each artist contributes to this atmosphere of gentle intensity: from Bandasak’s wine-stained texts and Schoorel’s elusive brushwork to Özbay’s cyclical performance rooted in Circassian myth and Hansma’s haunting video montage of natural disasters. Mul’s sculptural puddles and Zucconi’s ephemeral light installation further deepen the exhibition’s engagement with transience, memory, and perception. Sweetman invites viewers to slow down, to linger, and to discover the unexpected—one delicate burn at a time.
