A new short story/script by William Leavitt

“The Joy Lab. That’s what we call it. It’s our party on the roof of the multi-story building in the mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles where I’m living. The them of our conversation is suburban life in the 1950’s or the myth of a peaceful life in the jungle.”

William Leavitt (1941) is an influential American conceptual artist and a key figure in the development of conceptual art in Los Angeles since the 1960s. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses installation, photography, painting, drawing, writing, theater, and performance. Leavitt’s work mobilizes narrative structures drawn from Los Angeles architecture, vernacular culture, and the film and television industries, critically re-examining the construction of the Western imaginary as produced by Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
